Are you being harassed by an office jerk? The following are some suggestions as to what you should do when your faced with a bully!

1. Stay alert while in the office. Remember that the bully is really a manipulator. He likes an audience and everyone is a puppet where he / she will pull as many strings as he / she can. When you see someone being bullied, you should stand behind and support the Target during the assault. Never the bully.

2. If the bully schedules an event and deliberately works on disassociating his target with the rest of the group by not inviting him /  her in any social activities such as lunch or a golf outing, publically invite his/her victim. This will help with keeping the sanity in the office and show the bully that not everybody is going to play the game his / her way.

3. If the Manager is the bully and the victim (target) is being bullied severally, others in the department should come forward and show support for the target.

Look at it this way; he’s not going to fire everybody. There’s always power in the masses and the power of the bully will eventually weaken as his audience dissipates.

The target (victim) should understand that he / she is not alone. Bullies are themselves cowards who work on getting ahead by beating up on someone he/she considers to be weak.

* Review all of the legal suggestions in the next section.

1.Don’t ever take anything personally. The bully who has targeted me was a real expert at making all kinds of nasty looks at his target (me), which made me feel like I did something horribly wrong.

An expert bully is a real terrorist who strives to play all sorts of head games in an effort to knock down your self-confidence and self-esteem.

I made the mistake of going on the defensive and taking things personally. All that did was giving the bully more power over me which lowered my self-esteem and self- confidence. In my case they both went to an all-time low.

2.If your being Bullied, and he acts like he’s going to get more aggressive and start a fight, leave immediately and go straight to your Manager. If he / she is not available or appears to cover up the bullies mayhem, go straight to HR and if that person isn’t any
help, visit the Senior HR person and make it a point not to leave that office until you feel satisfied.

Don’t worry about being fired. If no action is taken you may have a lawsuit brewing in your favor.

3.If things get really tough with the bully, you will have to plan on confronting the situation head on. Just make sure you don’t get violent.

If he gets physical do not reciprocate or you will most likely get fired. Make sure that you thoroughly document everything and work on proving that the bully is the person who is in the wrong. You have to work on exposing the bully for what he / she really are.

4.When working in your desired profession, work at your hardest to keep a great reputation. If it becomes tarnished in any way, focus on cleaning it up. Bullies look for their target by finding someone who might be considered as the weakest link in the group or department.

1.Document every bullied assault. Note the date and time of each incident. The best method is by sending out an e-mail or text message to someone who can come to your aid for help and support.

2.Learn the anti-bully laws in the state where you are working. Employment laws against bullying are being passed on a state by state basis. An excellent web site to learn what laws are available in your state is at: https://healthyworkplacebill.org/states/

3. Contact HR and find out how they can help. Find someone there who you can confide in and get information as to how they can help you. Every company has their own set of policies. It’s best to find out what those policies are and how you can benefit from them.

4. If things are getting tough at work, remember to thoroughly document every incident and set up an appointment with an employment attorney as soon as possible. You need to discuss your specific issues with someone who can give you some sound advice and what your options are.

I would strongly suggest that you don’t let anyone at work know that you sought legal advice until it’s absolutely necessary.

5.If things get really tough with the bully, you will have to plan on confronting the situation head on. Work on controlling yourself and don’t allow the bully to bring yourself down to his/her level. Avoid violence wherever possible.

6.If he gets physical do not reciprocate or you will most likely get fired. You need to focus on proving that the bully is the person who is in the wrong. You have to work on exposing the bully for what he / she really are.

7.At this point in time, you already should have been discussing your situation with an employment attorney. You might be able to take legal action against the company. This will be the hardest thing that you will ever have to do but you’ll be respected a lot more if you stand up for yourself.
